HISTORYDuplin County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered by 29 ladies on March 12, 2000. The chartering ceremony was officiated by Mary B. Sutton, South Atlantic Regional Director. Our first chapter president was Delilah Gomes. Since we have been established, there have been six chapter presidents. We have initiated four lines of membership intake. We have presented scholarships in the amount of $200,000 for deserving students.
A publication entitled Legacy Untold: History of Black Churches in the Greater Duplin County Area was released February 2001. The chapter history is also documented in the Heritage of Duplin County North Carolina 1750-2012 (pp. 99 – 100). A photo of the chartered members is included in the history of the book. The Peppermint Pageant, High Expectations Program, Leaders Of Tomorrow (HEP/LOT), Jabberwock, Male Scholarships, Delta Academy, EMBODI, Delta GEMS, Eyes On Our Youth were key programs/projects |
